ALVA, Okla. — Southern Nazarene was shut out for just the second time this season as it dropped its fifth straight game in a 4-0 loss to Northwestern Oklahoma State.
Â
The Crimson Storm (4-22, 4-12 GAC) recorded just three hits in the loss, but had their fair share of baserunners as the Rangers walked four batters and hit three more. SNU had a chance to jump out early as NWOSU hit the first two batters of the game, but the Storm could never push anyone across.
Â
Northwestern put the first run on the board in the bottom of the second with a solo home run to take a 1-0 lead. The Rangers dealt the lethal blow in the bottom of the third. After an SNU error with two outs loaded the bases, NWOSU ripped a double to right field to score three unearned runs and take a commanding 4-0 lead.
Â
Southern Nazarene mounted its biggest threat in the fourth, as it had the bases loaded with two outs but again was unable to push anyone across.
Â
Mason Pinion (0-7) took the tough-luck loss tonight for the Storm as he gave up four runs, just one earned, over seven innings of work while walking just one batter and striking out one.
Cameron Ray pitched a scoreless inning of relief without allowing a hit.
Cody Nelson went 2-for-3 on the night for SNU and added a walk and a stolen base.
Brady VanZant had the only other hit for the Crimson Storm, as he went 1-for-1 with a double while also being hit by a pitch.
