BETHANY, Okla. — Southern Nazarene closed out a four-game series with a 6-5 win over Southwestern Oklahoma State after falling 4-1 in the first game of a Sunday doubleheader.
Â
It was the big inning that crept up on Southern Nazarene again in the first game of the doubleheader, just like Saturday's doubleheader, as Southwestern Oklahoma State scored all four of its runs in bottom of the third. SNU had two of its five hit in top of the fourth with one being an RBI double to center by
Allie Baird, but that was the only run the Storm scored.
Â
All five of Southern Nazarene's hits came from different players.
Kayla Wyatt (6-8) took the loss after giving up four runs on seven hits. She struck out four in six innings of work.
Â
Southern Nazarene took advantage of four Southwestern Oklahoma State errors as part of a 6-run second inning.
Hope Martin drove in the first two runs on a single to center before
Sam Smith was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to put SNU up 3-0. A SWOSU error made it 4-0 before a
Sydni Toilolo single through the left side drove in the final two runs of the inning to give the Storm a 6-0 lead.
Â
The Bulldogs scored two in the bottom of the second and added one each in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings. Southwestern had the winning run on second with two outs but Wyatt recorded the strikeout to get her second save of the year.
Â
Ashley Potter (1-1) picked up the win after she scattered three runs on eight hits across 5.2 innings of work.
Katelyn Brown gave up two runs in one inning of work before Wyatt struck out the final batter.Â
