Storm Fall in Doubleheader at SWOSU

Southwestern Oklahoma State sweeps SNU

BETHANY, Okla. — Southern Nazarene dropped both games of a Saturday doubleheader to Southwestern Oklahoma State, 5-2 and 12-6.

In the opener, Southwestern blew the door open early in the bottom of the first with five runs. SNU got two back in the top of the third thanks to a bases-loaded walk by Jill Clemence and a bases-loaded hit by pitch on Sydni Toilolo to cut it to 5-2.

That was as close as the Storm came as the SWOSU pitching staff held SNU to just three hits on the day.

Kayla Wyatt gave up five runs on eight hits and walked three in 3.1 innings of work. Ashley Potter gave up just three hits and fanned three in 3.1 innings of relief.

In the second game, SNU took a 2-0 lead in the bottom on a Kyndall Freer-Christopher double and a Jessica Thompson single in the first before a SWOSU error and another Thompson single made it 4-0 in the top of the second.

The Bulldogs though scored five runs in the bottom of the second to take a 5-4 lead. The Storm retook the lead in the top of the fourth at 6-5 when Sam Smith stole home before Freer-Christopher delivered a sacrifice squeeze to score Jill Clemence.

The Bulldogs though unloaded in the sixth with seven to take a 12-6 lead and held SNU scoreless in the seventh.

Smith and Thompson each went 2-for-3 as Smith scored three runs. Katelyn Brown (4-9) took the loss after giving up 10 runs on 10 hits in 5.1 innings of work.
