BETHANY, Okla. — Southern Nazarene bats matched the weather as the Storm dropped a doubleheader to Southwestern Oklahoma State 5-2 and 14-1.
Â
The Crimson Storm (4-19, 4-10 GAC) managed just 11 hits over two games as the Bulldogs spoiled any thoughts of the Storm winning their second consecutive series in Great American Conference play. SWOSU set the tone early in game one as the first batter of the game hit a home run. The Bulldogs added a run in the third and three in the fifth to take a 5-0 lead.
Â
SNU tried to fight back in the later innings as Mike Descisciolo homered in the seventh and
Dillon Feland hit a sacrifice fly to score
Shelby Reese to get to the final score of 5-2.
Â
The Crimson Storm managed just five hits in game one from five different players.
Mason Pinion (0-6) got the start for Southern Nazarene and gave up five runs on six hits in 4.2 innings.
Dante Archuleta and
Cody Tolbert combined to throw 4.1 scoreless innings out of the bullpen without giving up a hit.
Â
In the nightcap, the Bulldogs exploded in the top of the third inning with nine runs on seven hits, including two home runs.
Tyler Stevens drove in Feland in the bottom half to get SNU on the board, but that was all Southern Nazarene would get. SWOSU added runs in the fifth and seventh to seal the win.
Â
Jacob Spruill (0-7) started game two for the Storm and surrendered six runs on five hits while walking three over two innings of work. As was the case in the first game, no SNU player recorded a multi-hit game as the team totaled six hits on the game. Feland saw his 14-game hitting streak end in the finale, but walked twice and scored a run in game two.
