Falcons Fly Through Storm

SNU suffers a series sweep at the hands of Texas-Permian Basin

ODESSA, Texas — Southern Nazarene was unable to get its bats rolling as Texas-Permian Basin completed a four-game sweep 6-2 and 5-1 in a Saturday doubleheader.

In the opener, the Crimson Storm (0-4) scored in the opening frame for the second game in a row. Tyler Stevens got SNU on the board with a two-out single to score Dalen Edgar to give the Storm a 1-0 lead.

Permian Basin struck back in the bottom of the second as it took advantage of an SNU error to begin the inning to score two runs and take a 2-1 lead.

Southern Nazarene fought back in the third as Anthony Wiggins singled to bring in Stevens and tie the game.

The Falcons took the lead for good in the bottom of the fourth. UTPB used three consecutive hits from the bottom of its order to score three runs and take a 5-2 lead. The bottom half of the order chipped in another run for Permian Basin in the fifth to seal the game.

Mason Pinion (0-1) started the game for Southern Nazarene and gave up six runs, four earned, on six hits and three walks over 4.2 innings. Cameron Ray finished the game with 1.1 scoreless innings. Both Ray and Pinion struck out two batters. Stevens and Wiggins recorded the only hits for the Crimson Storm. Stevens went 2-for-3 while Wiggins went 2-for-2 and was hit by a pitch. The bottom half of the order did almost all damage for the Falcons as it went 6-for-7 on the game and drove in all UTPB runs.

In the nightcap, Southern Nazarene got two-hit games from Wiggins, Shelby Reese, and Cody Nelson while all other SNU batters went 0-for-20. The Crimson Storm struggled on the defensive end as well as they committed four errors on the game.

Wiggins (0-1) started on the mound during game two and allowed three runs on five hits and two walks.
