Muleriders Earn Sweep of Storm

SNU dropped an 8-3 contest to Southern Arkansas

MAGNOLIA, Ark. — Southern Nazarene was unable to take advantage of a sloppy game played by Southern Arkansas as it fell 8-3 in Magnolia.

The Muleriders committed five errors on the game but were still able to complete the three-game sweep of SNU. The Storm (1-14, 1-5 GAC) took an early lead as Ryan Tucker drove in Cody Nelson on a fielder's choice in the top of the second to give SNU a 1-0 lead.

SAU wasted no time striking back as the Muleriders scored five runs on six hits in the bottom of the second to give Southern Arkansas a 5-1 lead. SAU scored another run in the bottom of the fifth to make it 6-1.

Southern Nazarene tried to make it interesting in the top of the seventh. After a walk and two consecutive errors to start the inning, Gaige Webster hit a sacrifice fly to score Mike Descisciolo. Dillon Feland followed with a single to left field to score Garrett Perez and make it a 6-3 ball game.

The Muleriders ended hope of a comeback by scoring runs in the seventh and eighth innings to ice the game. SAU recorded eight extra-base hits on the day including three home runs.

Feland registered his first three-hit game of the season as he went 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI. Nelson added two hits and recorded the only other extra-base hit for the Crimson Storm.

Anthony Wiggins (0-4) had his shortest outing of the season as he surrendered five runs on six hits in 1.1 innings. Cody Tolbert pitched 6.2 innings of relief, giving up three runs while setting a season-high six strikeouts.
