Muleriders Top Storm

SNU dropped a doubleheader in Magnolia

MAGNOLIA, Ark. — Southern Nazarene struggled on the offensive end as it dropped both games of a doubleheader at Southern Arkansas, with both scores ending 6-1.

In game one, the Crimson Storm (1-13, 1-4 GAC) recorded seven hits but were only able to push one run across. That run came in the top of the sixth when Anthony Wiggins ripped his second home run of the season over the right field fence. By that time, the Muleriders had already scored five runs, which all came in the bottom of the third. SAU added one more run in the eighth to end all thoughts of a comeback for the Storm.

Mason Pinion (0-4) got the start in game one and gave up five runs, four earned, on 12 hits in six innings while striking out three. Connor Gaughan pitched two innings of relief while giving up one unearned run and striking out two. Wiggins went 3-for-4 in the opener while Tyler Stevens added two hits for the Storm.

In the nightcap, SNU fell behind quick. Southern Arkansas scored two runs in the bottom of the first, including a lead-off home run. SAU added another run in the fourth, but Southern Nazarene fought back. Brady VanZant hit a sacrifice fly in the top of the sixth to score Mike Descisciolo and make it a 3-1 game.

The Muleriders didn't let SNU hang around for long as they scored two runs in the next half inning then another in the bottom of the sixth to ice the game.

Jacob Spruill (0-3) started the finale for the Storm and gave up five runs on 10 hits and six walks while striking out six batters. Descisciolo led the way at the dish during game two with a triple and a run scored. Shelby Reese and Dillon Feland recorded the only other hits for the Crimson Storm in the nightcap.
