Storm Fall to Aggies

SNU fell for the eighth consecutive game

LAWTON, Okla. — Southern Nazarene lost its eighth consecutive game to begin the 2016 season as it dropped a doubleheader at Cameron 5-1 and 13-3.

The Crimson Storm (0-8) got off to a good start in the opener. Gaige Webster led off the game with a double that was followed by a Dalen Edgar single to give the Storm a 1-0 lead. Unfortunately, Cameron scored the final five runs of the game. The Aggies answered with a home run in the bottom of the first and scored runs in the second, fourth, and sixth innings to cruise to victory.

Mason Pinion (0-2) started the opener for the Crimson Storm and allowed five runs on seven hits in 5.1 innings pitched while striking out four. Cody Tolbert struck out two while allowing just one hit in relief.

In the finale, Cameron picked up where it left off. The Aggies scored two runs in the first innings to jump out to a 2-0 lead. SNU answered in the following frame as Josh Matelsky scored when Garrett Perez reached on an error to cut the lead to 2-1.

The Aggies responded in the bottom of the second, though, with seven runs on seven hits including two home runs and three doubles. Cameron tacked on four more runs in the fourth inning to seal the game. Tyler Stevens doubled in Cody Nelson in the fifth inning and Nelson drove in Perez in the sixth to make it 13-3, but the Storm did not get any closer.

Anthony Wiggins (0-2) started game two for SNU and lasted just 1.2 innings while giving up six runs on seven hits. Connor Berry made his first relief appearance of the season and struck out three batters in three innings of work.

Nelson and Stevens each went 2-for-4 in the finale and were the only two SNU players with multi-hit games on the day. Nelson added a stolen base as well.
