Southern Nazarene won in Alva for the first time since 2013

ALVA, Okla. — Ashley Almond scored a career-high 14 points on 7-of-9 shooting as Southern Nazarene completed a season sweep of Northwestern Oklahoma State with a 71-65 road win.
 
The Crimson Storm (5-14, 4-12 GAC) came out of the gates shooting well as they shot 42.1 percent from the field in the first quarter. Almond went 4-of-5 for the quarter while Rachel Doerneman added six points on 3-of-4 shooting.
 
The Rangers fought back in the second quarter, shooting 50 percent from the field while holding the Crimson Storm to a 23.1 shooting percentage. NWOSU outscore Southern Nazarene 16-8 during the frame and owned a 30-24 lead going to the locker room.
 
However, the Crimson Storm came roaring back out of intermission. SNU forced the Rangers into eight turnovers during the third that led to 15 points for the Storm. Southern Nazarene crashed the boards as well as it hauled in nine offensive rebounds en route to 10 second-chance points. Seven different Crimson Storm players scored during the third quarter as they outscore the Rangers 31-15 in the quarter and built a 55-45 lead heading into the fourth.
 
NWOSU tried to make things interesting down the stretch making 4-of-7 3-point shots in the final period and getting the SNU lead down to four within the final minute. However, Southern Nazarene converted chances at the line in the final seconds to seal the game.
 
Doerneman finished with a team-high 15 points for the Crimson Storm while adding five rebounds and two steals. Danielle Gaddis added 10 points, seven rebounds, and two assists.
 
Southern Nazarene made a living at the free-throw line tonight as it shot 18-of-22 from the charity stripe, compared to just 5-of-11 for the Rangers. The Crimson Storm took advantage of 17 NWOSU turnovers, converting those into 23 points. Tonight's victory in Percefull Fieldhouse was the first SNU victory in Alva since 2013.
