ARKADELPHIA, Ark. —Southern Nazarene had five players score in double figures, however it wasn't enough as the Storm lost 88-69 at Henderson State Thursday night.

The Crimson Storm (0-1, 0-1 GAC) opened up the 2016-17 season on the road in Arkadelphia as they faced off against the Reddies (1-2, 1-0 GAC).

Henderson State jumped out to an early 9-0 lead as they hit three 3-point shots to open the game. The Storm went on a small run of their own as they brought the score to 18-10 with a little under three minutes to go in the opening quarter. However, the Reddies ended the quarter on an 11-0 run to put the score at 29-10 at the end of the first quarter.

Southern Nazarene closed the gap in the second quarter as the Storm outscored the Reddies 22-12.
Callee Mason and Doerneman helped fuel the comeback as they scored 13 of the team's 22 points in the quarter. Mason scored seven and Doerneman chipped in with six points.

The Storm shot 25.6 percent from the field and 15.4 percent from the 3-point line in the first half, while the Reddies shot 45.7 percent from the field and 41.2 percent from the 3-point line.

Henderson State stepped up defensively in the third quarter and held the Storm to 19 points on 7-18 shooting. The Reddies scored 27 points on 9-19 shooting and 3-6 from behind the arc.

The Reddies outscored SNU 20-18 in the fourth quarter en route to a 88-69 win. HSU did most of their damage on the night from behind the arc as they shot 12-27 from the 3-point line. Henderson State also out rebounded the Storm 55-39, which helped the Reddies get 19 second chance points, compared to SNU's eight.

Doerneman led the Storm in scoring and rebounding with 17 points and eight rebounds. Four other players reached double figures for SNU, as Mason,
Madeline Schroepfer,
Mariah Williams all scored 11 points and
Abby Boyd scored ten points.Â
