ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — After jumping out to a 23-17 lead after the first quarter, Southern Nazarene was outscored each of the next three quarters en route to a 74-70 loss at the hands of Ouachita.
Â
It was the fourth consecutive loss for the Crimson Storm (4-12, 3-10 GAC), and the fifth loss in the last six games. SNU got off to a good start, as it made eight of its first 10 shots and built up a 19-10 lead six minutes into the game. By the end of the quarter, SNU led 23-17 thanks to 10 points and three rebounds from
Rachel Doerneman on 5-of-6 shooting.
Â
After a back-and-forth affair in the second quarter, the Tigers came out firing in the second half. Ouachita started the third quarter on a 14-3 run, earning a 47-39 lead less than six minutes into the third.
Â
The Crimson Storm fought back though, taking an 18-5 run into the fourth quarter to pull ahead 63-59 with eight minutes to play. However, Southern Nazarene went cold the rest of the way, as it finished the fourth quarter shooting 26.3 percent from the field and missed its last eight field goal attempts over the final 5:21 of the game. Ouachita complimented that with a 7-1 run to end the game, with five of those points coming from the free throw line.
Â
Doerneman matched a career-high with 20 points on the day while shooting 10-of-13 from the field.
Kandyce Freeman recorded her second career double-double with 10 points and a career-high 14 rebounds, along with two blocks and one steal.
Â
Ouachita did most of its damage from beyond the arc, as the Tigers shot 12-of-23 from long range and 3-of-5 in the final quarter.
