Cameron, Fort Hays Slow Down Storm

SNU takes two losses in opening day of South Central Classic

DURANT, Okla. — Southern Nazarene lost both matches in the opening day of the South Central Classic as it fell 3-1 (25-18, 25-17, 22-25, 25-20) to Cameron, before losing 3-1 (25-21, 13-25, 26-24, 25-12) to Fort Hays State.
 
In the opening match, SNU became just the second team to take a set off of Cameron, who moved to 5-0 after the win over the Storm. McKenna Qualls led the way with 14 kills and was a dig shy of a double-double with nine. She also had two aces. Courtney Bowie and McKayla Benner each had nine kills and four blocks. Elyse Berlin totaled 36 assists and 16 digs. Abbey Bell had a season-high 31 digs and Kaitlyn Vought had a career-high 21 digs to go with four blocks. Makenna Hunter also had four blocks.
 
The Storm had 10.5 blocks as a team, but were held to a .119 (44-24-168) hitting percentage and had eight service errors.
 
Vought led the way for the Storm against Fort Hays with 13 kills and nine digs. She also hit .296. Qualls and Bowie each had eight kills while Qualls had 12 digs and three blocks. Bowie also had three blocks. Berlin had posted 35 assists. Bell recorded 27 digs while Benner and Hunter each had four blocks.
 
SNU had eight team blocks, but were out dug, 60-52, and were held to a .169 (43-21-130) clip.
