EDMOND, Okla. — Southern Nazarene was unable to get anything going Tuesday against the University of Central Oklahoma, dropping a doubleheader to the Bronhcos, 21-5 and 8-0.
Â
After falling behind 3-0 in the first inning of game one, the Crimson Storm were able to tack on five runs in the top of the second inning. Four runs came off the bat of
Jill Clemence, who reached and scored on an error by the Bronhcos centerfielder, also scoring
Hannah LeBeau, Kyndall Freer, and
Katelyn Fischer. LeBeau then singled in the inning to score
Kylie Lang.
Â
That would be all SNU could muster for the game, as the Bronhcos scored 18 consecutive runs over the next three innings. Mistakes proved costly for the Crimson Storm as they committed two errors along with six walks and hit four batters.
Â
Kayla Wyatt (6-9) got the start for SNU, lasting 1.2 innings while giving up three hits and 11 runs, with only three of the runs being earned. Clemence and
Melissa Padilla led the way on offense, with Padilla going 2-for-3 and Clemence going 1-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI.
Â
The struggles on offense continued into the second game. Southern Nazarene only posted two hits in five innings. The hits belonged to Clemence and Lang, who also had a stolen base in the game.
Â
Katelyn Brown (8-11) started game two for the Crimson Storm as she went 3.1 innings and gave up seven runs on eight hits. Wyatt came in to throw 2.1 innings in relief and allowed one run on three hits.
