Drawing a Split With the Tigers

Southern Nazarene closed out its GAC season with a win over Ouachita Baptist

BETHANY, Okla. — Southern Nazarene ended the Great American Conference season on a high note as SNU pulled off a 6-1 won over Ouachita Baptist in the final game of the series.

The Crimson Storm (10-25, 8-19) lost the first game of the day 9-1 to the Tigers (22-13, 13-6 GAC)

In the opener, Ouachita Baptist took the first lead of the game with a solo home run in the top of the first, but SNU answered in the bottom of the third when Brandon Dormaier led off the inning with his first home run of the year. The Tigers retook the lead in the top of the fifth with three runs to take a 4-1 lead. OBU added one in the eighth and four more in the ninth to lead 9-1.

Mason Pinion (2-7) took the loss after he gave up four runs on four hits in seven innings of work. He also struck out three. All five hits from the Storm came from different players.

The Storm took the first lead in the nightcap when Anthony Wiggins hit a sacrifice fly to left center to score Gaige Webster from third. The Storm added another run in the second when Michael Descisciolo singled up the middle to score Brandon Dormaier.

SNU added four more in the bottom of the fifth to lead 6-0. SNU took advantage of an OBU error and wild pitch to score the first two of the inning before Dormaier and Cody Nelson ripped back-to-back singles to drive in the final two runs of the inning.

Nelson went 2-for-2 with an RBI while Webster went 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Jacob Spruill (3-4) tossed his first complete game of the year as he gave up just one run on four hits and struck out three in seven innings of work.
