BETHANY, Okla. — After dropping both games in the double-header Friday, Arkansas-Monticello  came out Saturday looking for vengeance and got it with an 8-0, 6-0 sweep of Southern Nazarene.
The Cotton Blossoms (20-17, 12-14 GAC) struck first, scoring four runs in the top of the third inning. Arkansas- Monticello extended its lead in the top of the fifth, as they scored three runs to push the score to 7-0. Arkansas-Monticello pitcher Katie Slaughter allowed just three hits, as the Crimson Storm (16-23, 12-15 GAC) struggled to get the bats going. UAM pushed across one more in the top of the fifth, boosting their lead up to 8-0.
SNU had to score at least one in the bottom of the fifth to avoid the run rule, but Slaughter went three up and three down to pickup the win in a complete game finish and move to 11-7 on the year.
Kayla Wyatt finished with three strikeouts in 3.2 innings pitched, and recorded the loss and moved to 7-10 on the year. The three Storm hits all came from different players in
Kylie Lang,
Jill Clemence, and
Katelyn Fischer.
Arkansas-Monticello's bats continued to stay hot in the second game of the doubleheader, as the Cotton Blossoms moved two across in the top of the first inning to take an early 2-0 lead.
Katelyn Brown got the start for the Crimson Storm and pitched well, allowing two earned runs on four hits. UAM extended their lead in the top of the fifth, scoring two to increase the score to 4-0 in their advantage. The Cotton Blossoms' Holly Wilmarth hit a two-run homer in the top of the seventh, as Arkansas-Monticello once again took a big lead into the final half-inning.
Southern Nazarene once again struggled to get their bats going, finishing the game with five hits as Arkansas-Monticello closed out the win. The Crimson Storm also left five runners on base. Katie Slaughter got the win for Arkansas-Monticello, while Brown recorded the loss, moving her to 8-12 on the season.
