ARKADELPHIA, Ark — Southern Nazarene split a Saturday twin bill with Henderson State as it won the opener 3-2 before falling 7-5 in the nightcap.

Jacob Spruill got the nod for Southern Nazarene in the first game of the doubleheader Saturday, and had a great outing. Spruill finished 6.2 innings and allowed just one run on six hits.

After two scoreless innings from both sides, Henderson State (21-15, 13-9 GAC) took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third. Southern Nazarene tied the game in the top of the fifth inning courtesy of a double by
Gaige Webster that drove in
Michael Descisciolo. Webster went 4-for-4 in the game, including three doubles and an RBI.

The Crimson Storm (9-21, 7-16 GAC) took the lead in the top of the sixth as
Dalen Edgar scored on a sacrifice fly from
Kyle Fultz. A single to right field in the top of the eighth by
Caleb Teel drove in Edgar to give SNU a 3-1 advantage. The Reddies responded in the bottom of the eighth and scored one to move the score to 3-2 in favor of the Crimson Storm heading into the final inning.

Descisciolo came in to relieve Spruill in the seventh, and pitched the final two innings as he allowed just one run on two hits to record his third save of the year. Spruill moved to 2-4 on the year.

Henderson State once again took a 1-0 lead in the second game of the double-header and this time it came in the bottom of the first. The Reddies scored two runs in the bottom of the third to take a 3-0 lead, but SNU got their bats going in the top of the fourth inning.
Kyle Fultz drove in
Dalen Edgar to get SNU on the board to cut the Reddies lead to 3-1. Teel drove in Fultz and Wiggins with a single to even things up at 3-3.
Ryan O'Donnell then singled to center to score Teel to give the Crimson Storm its first lead in the game at 4-3. Webster drove in a run on a groundout to give SNU a 5-3 lead before the Reddies finally got out of the inning.

HSU got their lead back after scoring one run in the bottom of the fourth, two in the fifth, and one in the sixth to open up a 7-5 lead heading into the seventh. SNU couldn't battle back in the top of the seventh as Henderson State took the game 7-5.

Zach Friesen recorded the loss, falling to 1-1 on the season. Teel and Descisciolo each went 2-for-3 in the nighcap.
