BETHANY, Okla. — Southern Nazarene picked up a 9-8 win in extra innings over the top team in the Great American Conference, but then fell 18-7 to Henderson State in the second game of a doubleheader.

In the first game, Southern Nazarene broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the second when
Sam Smith scored on a
Kylie Palmer ground out to take a 1-0 lead. Henderson State though answered with five in the top of the third to lead 5-1. The Storm though got three back in the bottom of the fourth to cut it to 5-4. The first two came on a double down the right field line by
Jessica Thompson to cut it to 5-3 before Hughes singled through the left side to score the other run.

The Storm added three more in the bottom of the fifth to retake the lead at 7-5. Syndni Toilolo tied the game at 5-5 with a single to left before Smith singled to left to give the Storm a 6-5 lead. SNU pushed it to 7-5 on a HSU error. SNU added another insurance run in the sixth on a
Melissa Padilla ground out to lead 8-5.

Taylor Daniels though tied the game with one swing with her first home run of the year to force extra innings.

After holding the Reddies scoreless in the top of the eighth, SNU loaded the bases and then got a fielder's choice by Padilla to win the game.

Smith went 2-for-2 in the game with an RBI and a run scored while Toilolo went 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored. Brown (6-10) picked up the win after she gave up five runs, three earned, on nine hits in six innings of work.
Kayla Wyatt got the start and allowed three runs, two earned, on five hits in two innings of work.

In the nightcap, Henderson State took the first lead of the game with a solo home in the top of the first, but the Storm scored three in the bottom half to take a 3-1 lead. Brown and Toilolo drove in the first two runs for the Storm with a pair of singles and the third run came in off a Smith ground out.

The Reddies tied it in the top of the second with two at 3-3, but a Padilla single through the left side made it 4-3 in favor of SNU. Henderson State tied it in the top of the fourth with one at 4-4 and then added six more in the fifth to lead 10-4.

The Storm answered with three in the bottom of the fifth to cut it to 10-7. The first two came in on a Smith single through the left side before Smith scored on a
Kyndall Freer-Christopher double to left field. Henderson State though pushed three more across in the top of the sixth to lead 13-7.

The Reddies though put it away with five more runs in the seventh.

Wyatt got the start again as she gave up three runs, one earned on thre hits in 3.0 innings of work, but
Ashley Potter (0-1) took the loss after giving up three runs on three hits in 1.1 innings of work.

Padilla and Brown each went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored to lead the way for the Storm.Â
