Storm Split With Tigers

Southern Nazarene won the opening game of the doubleheader but fell in the second one

BETHANY, Okla. — Southern Nazarene opened a four-game series with East Central with a 6-2 win Saturday before falling 9-3 in the second game of a doubleheader.
Southern Nazarene pushed the first run across in the top of the third when Melissa Padilla doubled to left to center to score Jill Clemence and give SNU a 1-0 lead. ECU answered with one in the bottom half of the inning to tie it at 1-1, but the Storm scored in the top of the fourth to lead 2-1 on a sacrifice squeeze by Katelyn Fischer.

The Storm pushed it to 3-1 in the fifth on a Hannah LeBeau single to center field before Kyndall Freer-Christopher broke the game wide open in the top of the fifth when she hit a three-run bomb to left to complete a four-run inning to put SNU on top 6-1.

The Tigers tried to mount a rally in the bottom of the seventh and scored one, but that was as close as they came.

Clemence went 2-for-3 with a run scored while LeBeau went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.

Kayla Wyatt (5-5) picked up the win after giving up just two runs on five hits in the complete-game outing.

In the nightcap, Clemence had three of SNU's seven hits as she went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Katelyn Brown (5-8) took the loss after giving up seven runs on eight hits in five innings of work.
ECU took the first lead with a solo home run in the bottom of the first, but the Storm answered with two in the top of the third to lead 2-1. The first run came on a Clemence single to score Fischer before Clemence scored on a Padilla single up the middle.

The Tigers though answered though in the bottom half of the inning with four runs to take a 5-2 lead.
The Storm cut it to 5-3 when LeBeau scored on an ECU error, but the Tigers tacked on two more in the bottom of the fifth and two in the bottom of the sixth to put it away.
