Storm Drops Double-Header to Cardinals

SNU lost 8-5 and 10-7 to William Jewell

BETHANY, Okla.— Gaige Webster went 2-for-6 with three RBIs and two runs scored in Southern Nazarene's 8-5 and 10-7 losses to William Jewell in a double-header.
 
In the first game, the Cardinals (2-0) got on the board in the top of the first when they drove in three runs to give them an early 3-0 lead. They extended their lead to four with another run in the top of the third. The Crimson Storm (0-3) got on the board in the bottom of the third with an RBI single by Dillon Feland that drove in Michael Descisciolo. Descisciolo cut the lead to two with a solo home run to left center in the bottom of the fifth.
 
William Jewell drove in three runs in the top of the sixth to create a 7-2 advantage. Southern Nazarene got on the board again in the bottom of the seventh when Ryan O'Donnell scored off a throwing error. Caleb Teel's sacrifice fly drove in Dormaier in the bottom of the eighth inning. Anthony Wiggins scored in the eighth inning as well from a balk by the Cardinals' pitcher to cut the lead to 7-5. In the top of the ninth, the Cardinals scored off a solo home run to extend their lead to 8-5. In the bottom of the ninth, the Crimson Storm went down in order to end the game.
 
Thomas Solowynsky (0-1) started his first game of the season and gave up seven runs and four earned runs on ten hits. He struck out five batters. Dormaier went 3-for-4 with one run scored. Descisciolo went 2-for-4 with one RBI and two runs scored.
 
In the second game, William Jewell scored first again with an RBI double in the top of the third inning. Southern Nazarene responded in the bottom of the third with an RBI single by Kyle Fultz that drove in Gaige Webster and Riley Morrow to take a 2-1 lead.
 
The Cardinals went on a scoring run in the top of the fourth inning as they scored five runs, with two of those runs coming from walks that occurred with the bases loaded. The Crimson Storm tied the game at 7-7 in the bottom of the fourth with two RBI singles and a home run.
 
William Jewell took the lead again in the top of the fifth an RBI single. They extended their lead to 10-7 in the top of the seventh with a two-run home run. Southern Nazarene put a runner on base in the bottom of the seventh, but could not drive in any more runs to end the game.
 
Descisciolo started his first game of the season and pitched three innings, giving up seven runs off of seven hits. Mason Pinion (0-1) pitched four innings, giving up three runs off of three hits. Webster went 1-for-2 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Fultz went 2-for-3 with one RBI.
