MONTICELLO, Ark.— Dillon Feland had two hits and the game-winning RBI in game one for Southern Nazarene in its 4-3 win and 21-2 loss to Arkansas-Monticello in a doubleheader.
In game one, the Boll Weevils (4-4, 1-2 GAC) got on the board first in the bottom of the second inning with a solo home run. They gained a 3-0 advantage in the bottom of the third with a two-run home run.
The Crimson Storm (3-4, 2-1 GAC) countered in the top of the fourth with a triple by
Gaige Webster that drove in
Riley Morrow,
Dalen Edgar, and
Anthony Wiggins to tie the game at 3-3. Feland hit a single to drive in Webster to give Southern Nazarene the 4-3 lead, which ended up being the game-winning hit.
Matthew Plummer made his first start of the season and pitched three innings, allowed three runs on four hits, and had one strikeout.
Mason Pinion (1-1) picked up his first win of the season as he pitched four innings, allowed no runs on four hits, and had four strikeouts.
Michael Descisciolo picked up his second save of the season as he pitched one inning, allowed no hits, and had two strikeouts.
Wiggins went 3-for-4 with one run scored. Edgar went 3-for-4 with one run scored. Feland went 2-for-5 with one RBI. Webster went 1-for-4 with a triple, three RBIs, and one run scored.
In game two, the Crimson Storm got on the board in the top of the first off an RBI single by
Brandon Dormaier that drove in Webster. Arkansas-Monticello responded in the bottom of the first with a grand slam to take a 4-1 lead.
Caleb Teel scored off a fielding error in the top of the second to cut the deficit to 4-2. That would be the last time Southern Nazarene scored the rest of the game as the Boll Weevils scored 17 unanswered runs.
Wiggins (0-1) started the game and pitched one inning, allowed seven runs on six hits, and had one strikeout. Dormaier went 1-for-1 with one RBI.
