Late Droughts Stop Storm

Second half struggles plague Storm in loss

BETHANY, Okla. — After a hot shooting first half and a seven-point lead through two quarters, Southern Nazarene hit a cold second half and Oklahoma Christian took advantage, as SNU fell 91-76.
 
The Crimson Storm (2-4) dropped their third straight game as they played their final home non-conference game and last home game until Jan. 7. SNU shot 48.7 percent from the field in the first half, but hit just 35.3 percent in the second half. The Eagles (3-7) on the other hand, hit 62.1 percent from the field in the second half and had 40 total points in the paint to score the win.
 
Rachel Doerneman had a career-high 20 points to go with five rebounds. She also had a block and a steal. The freshman went 9-for-16 from the floor and 2-for-2 at the line. Daniel Gaddis also had a career-high 17 points, as she was 8-for-11 from the field. She also had six rebounds and six assists to go with two steals. Abbey Boyd also added 14 points.
 
The Storm finished at 42.5 percent from the field and went 10-for-29 from 3-point range. SNU also went 4-for-6 at the line. OC's bench out scored SNU's 29-11.
 
SNU led by nine early in the game at 18-9, but OC scored 10 straight to take a 19-18 lead before an Ashleigh Hutchings 3-pointer gave SNU a 21-19 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Storm opened the second quarter with a 15-9 run to lead 36-28 with 6:02 remaining and carried a 46-39 lead into the half.
 
The Storm led 57-48 with 5:40 left in the third, but the Eagles closed the third with a 17-2 run to take a 65-59 lead into the fourth. Oklahoma Christian extended the lead further from there as it opened the second half on a 26-11 stretch to put the game out of reach.
