Shooting Down the Rangers

SNU hits 12 3-pointers for its second straight win

BETHANY, Okla. — For the second straight game Southern Nazarene University buried double-digit 3-pointers as it hit 12 in an 86-76 win over Northwestern Oklahoma State.
 
The win gives the Crimson Storm (10-9, 6-7 GAC) back-to-back wins for the first time since SNU won five straight to start the season.
 
CJ Rodriguez tied a career-high with 18 points as he was one of four Storm players to score in double figures. Rodriguez went 5-for-8 from the field, 3-for-5 from 3-point range and 5-for-8 from the free-throw line. He also had six rebounds and three assists. Garrett Butler tied his career-high with five 3-pointers as he scored 17 while going 6-for-8 from the field and 5-for-7 from downtown. Francisco Hukill added 15 points, five rebounds, two blocks and two steals while going 5-for-10 from the field and 3-for-6 from beyond arc. Jared Starkey chipped in with 12 points as he went 4-for-7 from the field and 4-for-4 at the line.
 
The Storm hit 48.1 percent from the field, going 26-for-54, and went 12-for-25 from 3-point range. SNU got to the line 32 times and hit 22 of those attempts. Southern Nazarene also out rebounded the Rangers 40-37.
 
The Crimson Storm came firing right out of the gate hitting four 3-pointers in the midst of jumping out to a 16-5 lead. SNU pushed it to 24-9 with 11:26 left in the first half before the Rangers answered with a 14-5 run to cut it to 28-23. The Storm through went on a 16-7 run capped by a Hukill traditional 3-point play to take a 44-30 lead at the half.
 
SNU pushed it to 47-32 early in the second half and pushed it to 65-42 midway through the half. The Storm led 68-45 with 8:41 left to play with the Rangers went on an 18-3 run to cut it to 71-62 with 3:43 left.  The Storm pushed it to 75-62 with 2:43 left, but the Rangers kept closing in. Northwestern Oklahoma State cut the deficit to 80-72 with 1:12 to play, but SNU hit just enough free throws to hold on the for the win.
