BETHANY, Okla. — Southern Arkansas picked up a Saturday sweep downing Southern Nazarene 4-2 in the first game before run ruling SNU 13-5 in the second game.
Southern Arkansas broke a scoreless tie in the top of the fifth of the first game when Maddie Dow hit a two-out solo shot to center to make it 1-0. The Crimson Storm tied it though in the bottom half of the inning on two doubles to left center.
Whitney Linder led off the inning with double before
Hannah LeBeau drove her in with a double to the same place to tie it at 1-1.
Shelby Miller put the Muleriders on top in the seventh with a solo blast to left to give SAU a 2-1 lead. Southern Arkansas then got a two-run home run to left by Audrey Farfan to take a 4-1 lead . The Crimson Storm got one back in the bottom half of the inning on an SAU error to cut it to 4-2, but the Muleriders held SNU off from there.
The loss was Kayla Wayatt's first in nine appearances as she fell to 13-10 on the year. The sophomore struck out at least six for the eighth straight time in starting a game. She struck out eight and gave up four runs on six hits in the complete game appearance.
Linder led the way at the plate going 3-for-3 with two doubles and two runs scored.
The Muleriders jumped out quickly in the second game scoring four runs in the top of the first. SNU got one back on a sacrifice squeeze by Fluman to score
Kylie Lang from third. Southern Arkansas added one more in the second to lead 5-1 before SNU scored one in the bottom of the third on a Fluman sac fly to make it 5-2. The Muleriders though erupted for five in the top of the fourth and two in the fifth to lead 12-2.
SNU staved off the first attempt at a run rule with three in the bottom of the fifth.
Megan Blevens laced a two-run double to right before Fluman singled to right to drive in a run to cut the score to 12-5. Southern Arkansas though picked up a run in the top of the sixth to put the game away.
Ashley Potter (1-5) took loss after giving up six runs on eight hits in one inning of work. Lang went 3-for-3 with two runs scored.
The Crimson Storm fall to 19-30 overall and 12-22 in the Great American Conference.
