Storm Split Saturday Doubleheader

Southern Nazarene got a big day again out of Jamie Hope

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 FORT SMITH, Ark. — Taylor Jacobs and Jamie Hope combined for 39 kills as Jacobs had 22 and Hope tied a career-high with 17 for Southern Nazarene in a 3-1 (25-16, 25-16, 20-25, 25-21) win over Dallas Baptist.
 
The Crimson Storm (7-5) also fell 3-1 (25-22, 25-18, 9-25, 25-14) to Texas Woman's in the final match of the night.
 
SNU hit .309 (63-13-162), posted nine team blocks and out dug DBU 88-72.
 
Jacobs had 17 of those digs as she notched a career-high while Hope was just two short of her career-high with 27. Kaylee Piatt was just three assists shy of a career-high as the junior had 50 assists to go with her eight digs and four blocks. Abbey Bell notched 17 digs while Kaitlyn Belanger had eight. Emily Dick also had a career-high seven blocks.
 
The Storm rolled in the first two sets, hitting .531 (18-1-32) in the opener before flipping the tables a bit in the second set by getting it done with defense. In the first set, five different players had at least three kills. SNU broke the set open when Emilee Crawford ripped a kill to break a 10-10 tie and sent SNU on a 6-1 run. The Storm never looked back to take a 1-0 lead. The Storm had 26 digs and two blocks in the second set and never had much trouble leading from start to finish.
 
SNU tried to finish it off in three and were up 19-18 in the third, but watched DBU close out the set with a 7-1 run to cut it to 2-1. The Storm trailed early in the third set, 9-6, but three straight kills tied the match at 9-9. Two Dallas Baptist errors and a Jacobs kill completed the 6-0 run and SNU was off and running.
 
The Storm were up 17-13, when DBU got life again and scored four straight to tie it at 17. After ties at 18 and 19, Hope ripped a kill to spark a 6-2 run to close out the match.
 
Jacobs had 18 kills in the second match and hit .319, but Texas Woman's out dug SNU 59-46 as the Storm hit just .220. Jacobs added 12 digs for her sixth double-double of the season. Hope had seven kills and 10 digs while Kira Roberts and Crawford each had seven kills. Piatt finished with 34 assists and seven digs. Dick also had five blocks with three being solo.
 
The Storm now get set to host Central Oklahoma, Tuesday, for a 7 p.m. contest.
