BETHANY, Okla. — Nial Best and
Brock Amaya each scored a goal for Southern Nazarene in a 4-2 loss to Northwood (Texas).
The Crimson Storm (1-1-0) fell behind early as the Knights (1-0-0) scored two goals in the first 15 minutes and added another in the 40th minute to take a 3-0 lead into the half. Carlos Barrera scored the first goal just seven minutes into the game before Blake Redus made it 2-0 six minutes later. Trey Matthews then added the third goal on a penalty kick with just 5:15 left in the first half.
SNU got on the board in the 61st minute when
Javier Caballeros found Best in front of the net as the Storm cut it to 3-1. Southern Nazarene got within one goal at 3-2 when Amaya slid one past Northwood's goalkeeper, Brad Wood, off a
Victor Oliveira pass.
Northwood put it away though in the 68th minute when Gabriel Elizondo weaved his way through the Storm defense and ripped a shot past
Tyler Wythe to give the Knights a 4-2 lead.
Wythe finished with two saves after Northwood put six of its 12 shots on goal. SNU put six of its 17 shots on goal and forced Wood to make four saves.
The Crimson Storm now get set to head out west as they take on a trio of Golden State Athletic Conference schools. First up is San Diego Christian, Thursday, for a 5:30 p.m. (CST) contest.
