Phil White begins his 19th season as the head coach of the Southern Nazarene University women's tennis program.
In his 18 years at the helm of the SNU women's tennis program, White has continued to build a national contender.
This past season, White guided the Crimson Storm to the NAIA National Tournament for the ninth consecutive season, while leading the Storm to 14-7 overall record and a 3-1 Sooner Athletic Conference record. SNU reached the second round of national tournament in 2011 and finished at No. 11 in the final NAIA Coaches' Top 25 Poll.
In 2009 the Storm won the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament title and finished with a 16-2 record and a final ranking of No. 8 in the nation.
In his 18 years at SNU, White has accumulated a record of 234-154 with 10 NAIA National Tournament appearances to his credit. Overall, White has compiled a record of 11-10 in National Tournament play.
In 2007, White led SNU to the program's first undefeated regular season, finishing the regular season with a 19-0 record. SNU also garnered the program's highest national ranking, peaking at #4 this spring. White led SNU to a 20-1 overall record and an NAIA National Tournament quarterfinal appearance.
In 2004, White guided SNU to the best season in school history as SNU posted a 15-12 record and made to the NAIA Final Four in the National Championships in May. SNU finished the year with the highest finish in school history with their appearance in the NAIA Final Four. SNU finished the season ranked 11th in the final NAIA National Polls. Individually, White’s No. 1 singles player, senior Larikah Russell, ended her senior season with an undefeated record at No. 1 singles and was the ITA's NAIA Senior Player of the Year. Russell again was dominant in 2005, winning her third straight ITA-NAIA Individual National Championship.
In 2001, the Crimson Storm posted their best record in school history up until that date, going 20-7 and making their first appearance in the NAIA National Tournament as a team. The team format for Nationals began in 2000. In 2001, SNU won their first ever national tournament match by defeating Castleton State in the first round 5-0. Also in 2001, SNU earned its first NAIA Top 10 ranking, debuting at No. 9 in the country April 11, 2001.
In only his second year as head coach, White had SNU ranked in the NAIA National Polls in 1997. SNU was ranked 21st in the pre-season polls. White also sent the doubles team of Christy Sawyer and Andrea Fraley to the NAIA National Tournament in 1996 and 1997.
Aside from his duties as the women's tennis coach at SNU, White is also the comptroller for Southern Nazarene University.
Phil and his wife Marilyn reside in Bethany and have four children: Greg, Jeff, Emily, and Allison.
