Jarred Merrill

The 2005 NAIA Division I Men’s Basketball Player of the Year, Jarred Merrill returns for his second year as the Assistant Coach for Men’s Basketball at Southern Nazarene. Merrill is no stranger to the Sawyer Center having played four years at cross-town rival Oklahoma Christian.
 
The Abilene, Texas, native holds the all-time scoring record at OC with 2,189 points and is second all-time in rebounds with 1,120. Merrill also set school records for single-season scoring (821 points), career field goals attempted (1,487), career free throws made (650) and attempted (795) and season free throws made (259) and attempted (311). He also shares the school record for career double-doubles with 59.
 
After his career at Oklahoma Christian, Merrill played professionally in Spain, Luxembourg, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Bahrain, Egypt, Argentina and South Korea. He also played in the U.S. in the United States Basketball League and the American Basketball Association and with the NBA D-League’s Rio Grande.
 
Merrill retired from professional basketball shortly after the birth of his daughter in 2011.

He is currently pursuing his Master's of Science in management.
 
Jarred and his wife Candace live in Oklahoma City, Okla., with their daughter Jaya.
