Artavius Bogan begins his third season as an assistant coach for the Southern Nazarene University men's basketball program.
Bogan spent three seasons as an assistant coach at Chipola Junior College in Marianna, Florida. Bogan was instrumental in helping the Indians reach the National Championship game in 2007 and helped to coach the Indians to two Panhandle Conference Championships.
Bogan’s primary responsibilities at Chipola included recruiting, player development, assisting with team defense, serving as strength and conditioning coordinator, and on-floor coaching during practices and games. Bogan played a key role in the development of 2007 National Junior College Player of the Year award winner JaMarcus Ellis, who now is at Indiana. In addition, Bogan’s work with the post players has been key to the success of former Indians DeAndre Thomas (Indiana) and Johnnie Harris (New Mexico).
Prior to his arrival at Chipola, Bogan spent two seasons at Seminole State CC in Seminole, Okla.
Before joining the coaching ranks, Bogan was a successful player at both Wallace State CC (Ala.). and the Montevallo (Ala.). During his freshman season at Wallace State, Bogan helped guide his team to a Region 22 runner-up finish.??Bogan, a Birmingham, Ala., native, spent his high school days playing basketball at Phillips High. During his senior season, he served as co-captain and helped Phillips to a runner-up finish at the state tournament.
