Oby Rios was named an Assistant Coach for the Southern Nazarene Football program in August of 2026.
Rios brings a wealth of playing and coaching experience to Southern Nazarene, with a career built on player development, leadership, and a passion for helping student-athletes reach their full potential both on and off the field.
As a player, Rios spent four years as a running back at Sterling College in Sterling, Kansas, where he was a member of the program’s first conference championship team in 2013. During the 2016 season, he was also part of the highest-scoring offense in the NAIA.
Rios began his collegiate coaching career in 2018 as a defensive line coach at Bethel College in Newton, Kansas, before transitioning to the offensive side of the ball. In 2019, he served as co-offensive coordinator at the semiprofessional level with the Wichita Skyhawks before assuming the role full time in 2021. That season, his spread attack averaged 36 points per game.
Rios later continued his coaching career at the high school level, spending time at Southeast High School in Wichita, Kansas, where he coached quarterbacks, and Poudre High School in Fort Collins, Colorado, where he coached running backs and served as the freshman head coach through the 2025 season.
A native of Loveland, Colorado, Rios graduated from Thompson Valley High School in 2012, where he was a two-year varsity letter winner. During the 2011 season, he ranked among the state’s top receivers in multiple statistical categories.
Rios earned his bachelor’s degree in Sports Management from Sterling College in 2017.
