A member of the 2000 BCS National Championship Oklahoma Sooners, Josh Norman joins the Southern Nazarene coaching staff for his second season as Offensive Coordinator. Norman came to SNU after having coached at Community Christian School (Norman, Okla.) where he went 23-0 and won the 2009 and 2010 OCSAA State Championships.
Â
A native of Midland, Texas, Norman rushed for over 3,800 yards and 50 touchdowns and was an all-state selection at Midland Lee High School. He was ranked as one of the top five running backs coming out of high school before signing with the University of Oklahoma.
Â
He started out playing special teams for the Sooners as a freshman before playing four different positions; running back, fullback, tight end and wide receiver, as a sophomore. He recorded the most receiving yards in the 2000 title game played in the Orange Bowl in a 13-2 win over Florida State. He earned All-Big XII honors as a junior and senior as well.
Â
Norman then signed with the San Diego Chargers as an undrafted free agent. He eventually earned a starting spot at tight end and caught the first touchdown of each of the 2002 and 2003 seasons from Drew Brees. He played three years with the Chargers before going through his final training camp in 2005 with the Oakland Raiders.
