DENTON, Texas - Southern Nazarene volleyball opened the Denton Volleyfest with a statement win over host Texas Woman's, sweeping the Pioneers 3-0 Thursday night to improve to 6-0.
The Crimson Storm (6-0) stayed perfect on the season with a 25-23, 30-28, 25-19 victory over TWU (0-5) in their first match of the weekend.
SNU had to battle early. The Storm hit just .159 in the opening set with 12 kills and five errors, but held the Pioneers to .083 with 12 kills and eight errors to take the tight first set 25-23.
The second set was a back-and-forth thriller. Southern Nazarene posted 18 kills on .300 hitting, while Texas Woman's answered with 21 kills on .269 to force extra points. SNU found the late edge to take it 30-28 and go up 2-0.
The Crimson Storm closed it out in dominant fashion in the third set. SNU hit a match-best .429 with 18 kills and just three errors to win 25-19 and complete the sweep.
Kate Wright led all attackers with 18 kills and added a double-double with 13 digs. Rayanna Mauldin added 12 kills and two blocks, while Riley Richardson chipped in eight kills.
Emma Grace Moddelmog directed the offense with 35 assists, 11 digs and two blocks. Hannah Morgan anchored the net with four blocks.Â
Southern Nazarene finished hitting .287 with 48 kills, three aces and six blocks, holding Texas Woman's to .174 with 46 kills.Â
