BETHANY, Okla. - Southern Nazarene opened Great American Conference play with a 3-1 win over Harding Thursday night at Wes Harmon Field in Bethany.
The Crimson Storm (4-2-0, 1-0 GAC) and the Bisons (0-6-0, 0-1 GAC) were scoreless at the break before Harding broke through early in the second half.
The Bisons got on the board in the 52nd minute when Hayden Teixeira found the back of the net off an assist from Nojus Grudis to make it 1-0. The goal was Teixeira's first of the season.
Southern Nazarene answered less than seven minutes later. Diego Zamora evened the match in the 58th minute to make it 1-1. The goal marked Zamora's second of the season.
The match stayed level until late. Ryunosuke Noda delivered the eventual game-winner in the 83rd minute, assisted by Pedro Belmont, to put SNU in front 2-1. The goal marked Noda's first of the season.
The Crimson Storm added insurance in the 89th minute. Bekir Lekic capped the night with his first goal of the season in the 89th minute, again assisted by Belmont, to make it 3-1.
Southern Nazarene controlled the attack on the night, out shooting Harding 30-10, including 16-5 in the second half, and placing 9 shots on frame. SNU also held a 12-5 advantage on corner kicks. The Bisons were credited with 6 saves, while Ewan Persehaie posted 5 saves.
