Crimson Storm Softball Competes at Rogers State Festival

SNU drops game one to No.18 Rogers State before bouncing back to to beat Midwestern State, 1-0

CLAREMORE, Okla. - The Crimson Storm headed to the Rogers State Festival to take on the host No. 18 RSU and Midwestern State. The Storm ultimately fell in game one before responding with a game two victory, 1-0.

Game 1

Southern Nazarene (2-4)  battled Rogers State (5-2) on the road Saturday afternoon but came up short in an 8-0 decision in Claremore.

Both teams were kept off the board early as pitching and defense controlled the first two innings. The Crimson Storm threatened in the second when Presley Brott roped a double to center, but Rogers State worked out of the jam to keep the game scoreless.

The Hillcats broke through in the third, capitalizing on a walk and a passed ball to plate the game's first run. Rogers State added more momentum in the fourth, stringing together extra-base hits to stretch the lead to 3-0.

SNU continued to battle at the plate, but couldn't find the timely hit to push a run across. Rogers State took further control in the fifth, with a pair of RBI knocks to extend the advantage.

The Hillcats added insurance in the sixth, taking advantage of a couple of Storm miscues to build the final margin.

Brott led the Storm with a double, while Kristen Mullendore, Abby Wood, and Bailey Nettles each recorded a hit. Southern Nazarene will look to regroup and bounce back in its next outing.

Game 2

Both squads struggled to find early offense Saturday afternoon, as Southern Nazarene and Midwestern State (1-3)  traded scoreless frames through the first two innings in Claremore.

The Crimson Storm finally broke through in the bottom of the third. Nettles sent one over the left-field fence for a solo home run, giving SNU a 1-0 advantage.

That swing proved to be all the support Baylee Sales would need in the circle. Sales was dominant from start to finish, scattering just two hits across seven shutout innings while striking out nine.

The Storm defense held firm through the final innings as Sales closed the door in the seventh with three straight outs to seal the 1-0 victory.

Next Up

The Storm will return to action in Claremore to take on Upper Iowa for 10:00 am doubleheader.
