DURANT, Okla. – The Crimson Storm erased an early deficit with a late-game surge Thursday afternoon, rallying past Southeastern Oklahoma State 6-5 to claim a key road victory.
Southern Nazarene (7-9, 2-2 GAC ) trailed 5-2 entering the sixth inning before delivering a decisive four-run frame to flip the momentum and silence the home crowd at Southeastern Oklahoma (7-11, 2-2 GAC).
The Savage Storm struck first in the opening inning, using a sacrifice fly and a three-run homer to build a quick 4-0 advantage. Southeastern added another run in the second capitalizing on a Storm error to stretch the lead to 5-1.
SNU answered in the second when Britlyn Tripp swiped second and Bailey Nettles delivered an RBI single down the left field line to put the Storm on the board. Eden Anderson added a spark in the fourth, launching a solo home run to left to cut the deficit to 5-2.
After that, the Storm pitching staff settled in. Ashley Larson entered in relief in the first inning and was dominant the rest of the way. Larson tossed 6.1 innings, allowing just one unearned run while striking out six and scattering four hits to earn the win.
Trailing by three in the sixth, Southern Nazarene put together its biggest swing of the afternoon. Presley Brott worked a walk and courtesy runners Hannah Wolfe and Natalie Gowan moved into scoring position. Ella Sottile singled to load the bases, setting the stage for Nettles.
Nettles delivered in a big way, crushing a go-ahead grand slam to center field to cap a four-run inning and give the Storm their first lead of the day at 6-5.
Southeastern threatened late, but Larson shut the door. The Savage Storm put a runner in scoring position in the seventh, but SNU's defense held firm to secure the comeback victory.
Nettles led the charge with five RBIs on two hits, including the decisive grand slam. Anderson added her solo homer, while Sottile and Abby Wood each recorded hits as part of SNU's six-hit effort.
