WEATHERFORD, Okla. - Southern Nazarene University picked up a gritty road win Saturday afternoon, holding off Southwestern Oklahoma State University for a 62–57 victory.
The Crimson Storm (17–6, 11–6 GAC) set the tone early, taking a 21-18 lead into halftime behind a strong defensive effort. SNU limited the Bulldogs to just 26 percent shooting in the opening half and controlled the glass to carry the three-point edge into the break.
Southwestern Oklahoma State (10–13, 7–10 GAC) battled back in the second half, as the game featured five ties and six lead changes, but the Storm responded with poise each time. After shooting just 29 percent in the first half, SNU found its rhythm offensively after the break, knocking down 57.7 percent of its shots in the final 20 minutes and pouring in 41 second-half points.
The Storm dominated inside, outscoring SWOSU 36-22 in the paint while finishing with a 38-35 rebounding advantage. SNU's bench also played a key role, contributing 24 points in the win.
Brady Cook provided an efficient spark with 10 points on a perfect 3-for-3 shooting and 3-of-3 from the free-throw line. Baron Bracey added 11 points and a team-high eight rebounds, while Malik Edwards chipped in nine points. Tracy Godfrey Jr. scored nine points in 18 minutes, and James Burries added nine points and nine rebounds to help anchor the interior.
SNU shot 66.7 percent from the free-throw line overall and went 9-of-12 at the stripe in the second half to help seal the victory. Defensively, the Storm held the Bulldogs to 35.8 percent shooting and forced 14 turnovers, making enough key stops down the stretch to secure the five-point conference road win.
