Crimson Storm Split First Day at Lonestar Classic

SNU picks up a comeback win over Washburn after falling short to Metro State

GRAPEVINE, Texas - The Crimson Storm opened their season at the Lonestar Classic in Grapevine, Texas Friday afternoon. The Storm dropped their first contest against Metro State and picked up their first win of the season in comeback fashion against Washburn to earn a split on the day one.

Game 1

SNU wasted no time putting pressure on the Roadrunners (1-1). In the first inning, Eden Anderson lined a single into shallow left that brought Quinlyn Johnson around from second to give SNU the early 1–0 edge. An inning later, Ciena Perez added to the momentum, launching a solo shot to deep center field to double the Storm lead at 2–0.

SNU's pitching staff kept MSU Denver quiet through the first three frames, but the Roadrunners began to chip away in the fourth. A triple to left field set up their first run of the game, trimming the Storm advantage to 2–1. MSU Denver evened things up in the fifth with an RBI double to right center, knotting the score at 2–2.

The turning point came in the sixth inning when the Roadrunners strung together a few  timely hits. A run-scoring double gave MSU Denver its first lead of the afternoon, and a follow-up RBI single stretched the margin to 4–2.

Southern Nazarene continued to battle at the plate. Anderson led the Storm with a pair of hits and an RBI, while Perez's home run highlighted the offense. Presley Brott also put together a strong day at the plate with two hits.

Despite opportunities late, SNU couldn't break through again as MSU Denver held on for the 4–2 victory.

Game 2

Southern Nazarene bounced back rallying late to stun Washburn (1-1)  6–5 in a dramatic walk-off victory to cap off day one of the Lonestar Classic.

Washburn struck first and built a 5–0 lead through six and a half innings, highlighted by a two-run single in the second, an RBI knock in the fifth, and a two-run homer in the top of the seventh. But Southern Nazarene refused to fold and ignited an impressive comeback in the bottom half of the seventh.

Kira Taber jumpstarted the rally by crushing a two-run homer to deep left field to put SNU on the board. Moments later, Kristen Mullendore followed with a two-run blast of her own to left center, cutting the deficit to just one. The Storm kept the pressure on as Abby Wood delivered an RBI single up the middle to tie the game at 5–5, setting the stage for the final blow. With runners in scoring position, Ella Sottile came through clutch, singling through the right side to bring home the winning run and complete the walk-off.

Southern Nazarene finished with 11 hits on the day, led by Johnson and Mullendore, who each drove in two runs. In the circle, Kinley Brand earned the win in relief as the Storm secured their first win of the 2026 season.
