Crimson Storm Falls to NWOSU in Tight Match

Southern Nazarene scores twice in the second half but Northwestern Oklahoma State holds on for a 3-2 win at Wes Harmon Field

BETHANY, Okla. - Southern Nazarene hosted Northwestern Oklahoma State on Saturday afternoon at Wes Harmon Field, falling just short in a 3-2 battle against the Rangers.

The Rangers (7-0-1, 2-0 GAC) struck early, finding the net in the sixth minute off the foot of Luana San Miguel to grab a 1-0 lead. The Crimson Storm (2-5-1, 0-2 GAC) nearly answered minutes later as Bella Morgas fired a shot on frame, but NWOSU keeper Taylor Annen came up with the save. JQ Molgaard followed with a chance from distance that sailed just high before a penalty kick conversion from Jenna Mills extended the Rangers lead to 2-0. Adison Johnson had a chance late in the half, but the Storm went into the break trailing the Rangers 2-0.

Out of halftime, the Storm looked to turn things around, but Northwestern extended their advantage to 3-0. Moments later, SNU finally broke through when Samantha Most found the back of the net off assists from Sam Smith and Molgaard, cutting the deficit to 3-1. The Crimson Storm kept the pressure on, with shots from Danika Womack, Morgas, and Most nearly closing the gap.

In the 77th minute, Morgas struck again, this time off a setup from Ashley Fuller, to make it 3-2. Gianna Bonnett came up big in goal with a string of saves to keep the Storm within reach, but Northwestern Oklahoma State held strong to close out the match and take the 3-2 win over the Storm.
