Southern Nazarene Drops Road Match at Ouachita Baptist

Late goals push Tigers past SNU after Crimson Storm struck first

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - SNU traveled to Arkadelphia to take on Ouachita Baptist and fell 3-1 on the road Thursday evening.

The Crimson Storm (2-6-1, 0-3-0 GAC) got rolling early, applying pressure on the Tigers (2-4-2, 1-0-1 GAC) defense as Sam Smith fired one bottom left that was denied by Ouachita keeper Taylor Hapgood. Gianna Bonnett matched the effort on the other end, stopping a close range shot to keep things level.

Samantha Most followed up with another look on goal, but Hapgood was there again. With ten minutes left before halftime, SNU finally broke through as Gabriella Ponce buried one in the net off a feed from Smith, giving the Storm a 1-0 advantage. Most nearly doubled the lead moments later, but her shot missed just wide, and Southern Nazarene carried the one goal edge into the break.

Coming out of halftime, Ponce nearly added her second goal of the night, but the attempt sailed high. Ouachita Baptist answered soon after, evening things up at 1-1. The Crimson Storm continued to battle as Bella Morgas and Most each tested Hapgood, but the Tigers goalkeeper stood tall. Bonnett came up with another save to keep it close, but Ouachita struck again to take the lead at 2-1.
With just seven minutes remaining, the Tigers added a third goal to seal the match, handing the Crimson Storm a 3-1 loss.
