Crimson Storm Falls 2-1 at SWOSU in GAC Opener

Kaira Boah’s Goal Brings SNU Close, But Bulldogs Hold On for Win

WEATHERFORD, Okla. - Southern Nazarene traveled to Weatherford for their first Great American Conference game of the season, taking on Southwestern Oklahoma State, but fell 2-1 in a hard fought battle.

The Bulldogs (5-2-0, 1-0-0 GAC) struck first just 12 minutes into the match, putting Southern Nazarene (2-4-1, 0-1-0 GAC) behind early. The Crimson Storm created chances in response, with Gabriella Ponce firing a shot from the left and Ella Adams and Sam Smith each testing the top of the woodwork, but SWOSU maintained their 2-0 lead heading into halftime.

Southern Nazarene came out aggressive in the second half, with Samantha Most sending a shot just over the top right and Shianne Stringer testing the left side. SWOSU's Ruth Vasquez threatened on multiple occasions, but Gianna Bonnett made key saves to keep the Storm within striking distance. Adison Johnson also had a chance, but her shot was saved by the Bulldogs goal keeper Emma Young.

Kaira Boah finally found the back of the net for Southern Nazarene, assisted by Ashley Fuller, cutting the deficit to 2-1. Gabriella Ponce had another chance late, but the Bulldogs held on to secure the win.
