PITTSBURG, Kan. - Southern Nazarene Women's Soccer came up just short on the road Saturday afternoon, falling 1-0 to Pittsburg State.
The Crimson Storm (1-2-1, 0-0-0 GAC) and the Gorillas (3-1-0, 0-0-0 MIAA) played an even first half, with both sides creating opportunities but unable to break through. SNU's Gianna Bonnett made key saves early, stopping a shot from Carrie Cunningham and another from Shayla Hunt to keep things scoreless. Ashley Fuller had a look for the Crimson Storm in the opening period, but the match went into halftime tied 0-0.
Pittsburg State broke the deadlock just nine minutes into the second half, finding the net to take a 1-0 lead. The Gorillas pushed for more, but Bonnett came up strong again with a save on Danae Hobson. SNU looked for an answer, as Danika Womack sent a shot just wide in the closing minutes.
Bonnett added another late save on Ella Cazzavillan to keep the Storm within striking distance, but the Crimson Storm couldn't find the equalizer as Pittsburg State held on for the 1-0 win.
