Crimson Storm Collects GAC Honors

SNU stacks up All-Conference and Academic Honor Roll selections heading into Thursday’s matchup with Arkansas Tech

BENTONVILLE, Ark. -The Great American Conference postseason awards are in, and Southern Nazarene Softball made a strong showing with several players earning honors.

Senior pitcher Janie Worthington, from Carnegie, Oklahoma, earned First Team All-GAC honors for the second straight year. She had a standout season in the circle, holding opponents to a .196 batting average ranking her third in the conference. Worthington also collected 129 strikeouts, which ranked her fifth in the Great American Conference. 


Senior catcher Liana Heshiki, from Pearl City, Hawaii, picked up All-GAC First Team honors after being named to the Honorable Mention Team just a season ago. She hit .382 ranking her eleventh among the GAC.  Heshiki also posted a .503 on base percentage, which ranks her second in the conference. On the defensive side of the ball she was perfect with a 1.000 fielding percentage.


Senior third baseman Hailey Evans, from Deer Creek, Oklahoma, landed on the First Team for the second year in a row. She hit .389 ranking her seventh among the GAC and ranked third in slugging percentage at .701. Evans also had a .485 on base percentage ranking fourth in the conference. Her 65 hits were also good for fourth in the conference and her 53 runs batted in put her in second among the GAC. Evans added 13 home runs which tied for third in the conference and she led the GAC with 117 total bases. 

Sophomore shortstop Kristen Mullendore, from Harrah, Oklahoma, earned Second Team honors after being named First Team last season. She hit .397, good for third in the conference. Mullendore also added 11 stolen bases and 100 assists on the year. She tallied 60 hits, ranking ninth in the GAC, and drove in 38 runs, good for eighth. Mullendore also crossed the plate 36 times, tying for seventh in the conference. 


Senior first baseman Emma Swearingen, from Moore, Oklahoma, picked up an honorable mention spot for the second straight year. She slugged .460 and turned 10 double plays for the Storm. Swearingen also finished the regular season collecting 243 putouts for the Crimson Storm ranking her twelfth in the conference.  

Freshman utility and pitcher Kelsi Hilton, from Sand Springs, Oklahoma, also earned honorable mention honors. She hit .313 while appearing in 37 games. Hilton totaled 80 at bats, with eight doubles, one triple, and two home runs. In the circle, Hilton posted a 3.54 ERA with four wins in 12 appearances during her first season with the Crimson Storm. 


On top of getting it done on the field, 14 Southern Nazarene Softball players were recognized for their hard work in the classroom, earning spots on the GAC All-Academic Honor Roll. Eden Anderson, Kinley Brand, McKayla Franks, Jentry Henderson, Olivia Hernandez, Liana Heshiki, Ashley Larson, Julia Lopez, Kenedi Morelock, Kristen Mullendore, Peyton Norvelle, Madilyn
Southerland, Graysen Stanley, and Emma Swearingen all picked up the academic honor. 


Next Up

The No. 3 seed Crimson Storm will now set their sights on the Great American Conference Championships, where they will face No. 6 Arkansas Tech University on Thursday, May 1 at 6:00 pm in Bentonville, Arkansas.
