Strong Showing from Storm at Shadow Valley

SNU Men's Golf places 7th at Shadow Valley Invitational

ROGERS, Ark.—Southern Nazarene Men's Golf traveled east to Arkansas to compete in the Shadow Valley Invitational hosted by Arkansas-Fort Smith. The Crimson Storm performed well, navigating difficult conditions and slick greens to place T-7 in the 17 team field.

The tournament was originally scheduled for the typical three rounds with two being played on Monday and the final round being played on Tuesday, but heavy rain forced play to be suspended with just a couple of holes remaining in round two. Teams were unable to resume play until 2:30 PM on Tuesday. The decision was then made to finish round two, but cancel round three.

The Crimson Storm played well, finishing 622 (+46) as a team. They were just ten strokes from a top-5 team finish. Harding won the tournament at 600 (+24). Their own Jose Manuel Peralta won the tournament by six strokes after putting together back-to-back impressive rounds of 70 (-2).

Southern Nazarene delivered as a team on the par-3s. They tied with Arkansas Tech for a tournament lead of +8 on all par-3s. This was helped by Dawson Dunlap who was an even par on the eight par-3s for the tournament.

Senior Landon Hendrix put together one of the best performances of his collegiate career. He followed up a one-over 73 in round one with a two-over 74 in round two and placed 3rd overall in the field. He collected 7 birdies in the tournament and finished just 2-over par on all par-4s in the tournament.

Theo Naus earned a top-30 finish at T-29. He was top-five in the field after round one but could not keep up in round two. He shot 73 (+1) with three birdies in round one, but fell to an 83 (+11) in round two.

Mason Sebrant finished T-53 after improving by eight strokes from round one to round two. He built upon an 84 in round one to a 76 in round two.

Josh Van Niekerk was just one stroke behind Sebrant at 161 (+17). He improved from an 83 in round one to a 78 in round two. He finished T-59 in the field.

Dawson Dunlap rounded out the Crimson Storm lineup at 168 (+24) after shooting 87 in round one and an 81 in round two. He placed T-81 in the field.

SNU will take a week off before returning to the course March 17-18 for the Oak Tree Invitational in Edmond. The Storm placed 15th at Oak Tree last year.
