Storm Secures Title with 63-54 Win

Hannah Duncan drops a career-high 15 points in the victory over SWOSU

Box Score WEATHERFORD, Okla.- The Southern Nazarene Women's Basketball team traveled to Southwestern Oklahoma State for a big conference showdown. The Storm made sure to leave no doubt as they clinched the outright GAC Regular Season title with a 63-54 victory over the Bulldogs.

The Crimson Storm (22-6, 19-3 GAC) wasted no time setting the tone, after Southwestern Oklahoma State (16-12, 12-10 GAC) scored first. Katie King responded with a quick layup, assisted by Hannah Giddey, and the Storm quickly found their rhythm. King added a three pointer, assisted by Giddey once again. Carley Gasaway, Giddey, and Braci Nyberg each contributed key baskets to help the Crimson Storm take an 18-9 lead at the end of the first quarter.

In the second quarter, SNU kept pushing. Nyberg hit a three pointer, assisted by Jillian Crawford, and Hannah Duncan knocked down a big three pointer of her own, helped by Gasaway. The Storm extended their lead to 30-25 going into halftime.

The third quarter saw SWOSU fight back, scoring early, but SNU responded with a strong effort. Duncan hit another three pointer, and the Storm stayed ahead. King knocked down free throws and a fastbreak layup from Umi Otsuka maintained the SNU lead. Duncan continued her impressive afternoon, adding a key layup and tip in. Heading into the final quarter, Southern Nazarene held a 42-39 lead.

In the fourth quarter Duncan sealed the deal for the Storm, hitting another three pointer with an assist from Gasaway to extend the lead to 45-39. She continud her dominant performance with free throws and a layup. Giddey also kept contributing with crucial tip ins and layups. Nyberg then added a final three pointer to secure the win for SNU, 63-54.

Duncan had a career day, scoring 15 points to lead the Storm while making a big impact in their road to securing the conference title. 

Next Up
With the win, Southern Nazarene has now claimed the No. 1 seed and looks ahead to the Great American Conference Championships in Fort Smith, Arkansas, March 6-9.
