Storm Pick Up a Pair of Wins Over Friends

Crimson Storm claim two midweek wins over the Falcons

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 PIEDMONT, Okla. - The Crimson Storm hosted the Falcons of Friends University for a midweek doubleheader. The Storm offense continued to show their dominance early this season with a pair of wins over Friends.

Game 1
Katelyn Woodard got the ball for the Storm (5-1, 0-0 GAC) to begin the contest. She retired the first three Falcons (0-2, 0-0 KCAC)  batters she faced, sending the SNU offense to the plate.

The Crimson Storm bats got to work early posting four runs in the first. An Emma Swearingen triple kicked off the scoring after she plated two. Swearingen scored shortly after on a wild pitch before Peyton Norvelle singled to extend the SNU lead to 4-0.

Eden Anderson kept the scoring going with a two-out double to plate Kristen Mullendore giving the Crimson Storm a 5-0 lead after the second.

The Storm offense continued to roll in the bottom of the third after a Liana Heshiki double sent Norvelle home. Mullendore followed with a sac fly tacking on another run to the Storm lead. Swearingen's bat stayed hot as she notched an RBI single to give SNU a 9-0 lead through three innings of play.

The Falcons were able to find their way onto the scoreboard in the top of the fourth after a sacrifice fly sent one runner across home. Friends was able to hand Southern Nazarene their first scoreless frame, sending them back to the plate looking to avoid a run-rule.

Ashley Larson took over in the circle for SNU as she recorded the final three outs securing the 9-1 victory over Friends.

Game 2
It was a pitcher's duel to start as Olivia Hernandez went head to head with Falcons pitcher Jenna Ormiston through three scoreless innings.

The Falcons looked to get revenge as they struck first in the top of the third after a double plated two. The Crimson Storm continued to show their resilience as they put up a five-run inning, which was highlighted by a double from Heshiki.

Friends took back their lead in the fourth after a handful of costly SNU errors. The Falcons also notched back-to-back singles and a double to lead 6-5 while also forcing two Storm pitching changes.

The Crimson Storm needed a response and got one in the bottom of the fifth as Kelsi Hilton drove in the tying run. That would be all the Falcons allowed as they went into the top of the sixth tied at 6-6.

Ashley Larson shut down the Friends offense from the circle sending her team back to the plate. Heshiki came up clutch once again driving in the winning run, Kenedi Morelock, to give SNU a 7-6 lead going into the top of the seventh.

Needing just three final outs the Storm looked to Woodard as she shut down the Falcons securing the double-header sweep for the Storm.
