Storm Pick Up Two Wins at Raising Cane’s Softball Festival

Crimson Storm goes 2-1 at the Raising Cane's Softball Festival

PIEDMONT, Okla. - The Crimson Storm headed north to Piedmont High School to host the Raising Cane's Softball Festival. Southern Nazarene took on Nebraska-Kearney and Northeastern State as they picked up two more wins on the season.

Game 1
The Lopers (4-5, 0-0 MIAA) struck first as they notched a quick 3-0 lead thanks to a pair of singles. The SNU (7-6, 0-0 GAC) offense was unphased as Kristen Mullendore, Kendi Morelock, and Kelsi Hilton caused some havoc at the plate to tie the score at 3-3 after one inning of play.

It was all SNU from there as the Crimson Storm continued to tack on three runs an inning. Jentry Henderson found her groove in the circle shutting down the Loper offense before Hilton came on to finish things. Henderson picked up her first collegiate win and Hilton snagged her first collegiate save as the Storm took down the Lopers 12-4 in game one.

Game 2
The Storm met the Riverhawks for a double-header to finish off the Raising Cane's Softball Festival. NSU wasted no time getting to starting pitcher Olivia Hernandez as they blasted back-to-back home runs to lead 3-0 after one frame.

The Storm was able to slowly chip away after the Mullendore and Morelock dup continued to fuel the SNU offense, cutting the deficit to one.

Another three-run inning for the Riverhawks proved costly for the Storm as they looked for another response from their lineup.

Maddie Southerland took over in the circle shutting down the NSU offense before they put together another three-run inning to extend their lead 7-2.

There was still some fight in the SNU dugout as they put together four runs to trail just 7-6 going into the final inning. The Riverhawks were able to add an insurance run to their score before shutting down the SNU hitters to claim the 8-6 victory.

Game 3
Southern Nazarene found the response they needed as Janie Worthington dominated in the circle tallying nine strikeouts and just two hits in her five innings of work. She had some help from her lethal offense as they put up an impressive six-run second inning.

The Storm took over from there and never looked back as they plated two more in the third to extend the lead to 8-0. The Crimson Storm added one final run to their score after a Marlee Warden double in the fourth, securing the 9-0 victory over the Riverhawks.
