No. 6 Southern Nazarene Picks Up Road Win Over SAU

Crimson Storm Men's Basketball earns their first conference win of the season over the Muleriders

MAGNOLIA, Ark. — No. 6 Southern Nazarene opened Great American Conference play with a strong road statement on Thursday night, knocking off Southern Arkansas 79–69 to collect their first conference win of the season.

The Crimson Storm (7–0, 1–0 GAC) set the tone early, building a 36–24 halftime advantage and withstanding a second-half push from the Muleriders (3–4, 0–1 GAC) to secure their seventh straight win to start the season.

Baron Bracey led the way for SNU with a game-high 16 points, knocking down a pair of three-pointers and going 6-of-7 at the free throw line while adding six rebounds and two steals. Malik Edwards followed with 13 points and two assists, while James Burries provided a big spark off the bench with 12 points on an efficient 4-of-6 shooting.

Bam Johnson chipped in 11 points along with three steals, and Colby Henderson added nine points, seven rebounds, and five assists to fill up the stat sheet. Aaron Potter rounded out the balanced scoring attack with nine points as well.

Southern Nazarene shot 44.0 percent from the field and connected on eight three-pointers, but it was the Storm's work at the free throw line that proved crucial as SNU went 27-of-31 from the stripe, including 18 makes in the second half. The Crimson Storm also turned defensive pressure into offense, scoring 22 points off turnovers and adding 17 fast-break points.

After leading by as many as 14 in the first half, SNU battled through a late Southern Arkansas rally in the second half, but timely free throws and key defensive stops down the stretch kept the Storm comfortably in front, securing the 79-69 victory.
