Storm Falls Short in 2-1 Battle at Northeastern State

Francisco Chong nets early penalty kick as SNU comes up just shy on the road in Tahlequah

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. - Southern Nazarene hit the road Wednesday evening to take on Northeastern State, falling 2-1 in a tight matchup at DeLoache Field.

The Crimson Storm (4-4-2, 2-2-1 GAC) came out firing as goalkeeper Aimar Aramendia made a pair of early saves to keep things even. In the 15th minute, SNU broke through as Francisco Chong buried a penalty kick to put the Storm on top 1-0. Just a few minutes later, the RiverHawks (6-3-2, 3-2-0 MIAA) answered to even things at 1-1.

Adnan Boulaghmal and Bekir Lekic both had solid chances to regain the lead, but Northeastern State held strong as the teams went into halftime tied 1-1.

In the second half, Keshon Carter forced a save early before NSU found the back of the net to take a 2-1 lead midway through the half. The Storm continued to press with looks from Pedro Arbizu, Braxton Decker, and Diego Zamora, but Northeastern's defense held on to secure the 2-1 win.
