Crimson Storm Falls Short Against No.13 Fort Hays State in 2-1 Battle

Junior Duran nets early penalty as SNU takes the lead, but the Tigers rally to edge the Crimson Storm at Wes Harmon Field

BETHANY, Okla. - Southern Nazarene battled hard against No. 13 Fort Hays State on Saturday afternoon at Wes Harmon Field but came up short in a 2-1 loss.

The Crimson Storm (4-3-2, 2-1-1 GAC) struck first midway through the opening half when Junior Duran buried a penalty kick to give SNU the early 1-0 lead. The advantage didn't last long, though, as the Tigers (7-0-2, 3-0 MIAA) found the equalizer just a few minutes later to even the score at 1-1.

Fort Hays State added another goal on a penalty kick ten minutes later to take a 2-1 lead heading into halftime.

In the second half, goalkeeper Aimar Aramendia kept the Crimson Storm in it with a pair of strong saves, stopping shots from both Oumar Ndiaye and Tadhg Walsh. The Storm continued to push for the tying goal with looks from Adnan Boulaghmal, Keshon Carter, and Lawm Sangzuala, but Fort Hays keeper Payton Roehrich held firm to secure the 2-1 win for the Tigers.
