Crimson Storm Tripped Up on the Road at UAM

Southern Nazarene unable to overcome the Weevils in Monticello, 23-9

MONTICELLO, Ark. — Southern Nazarene looked to pick up their second Great American Conference victory, but fell short on the road Saturday afternoon at Arkansas-Monticello, 23-9.

The Crimson Storm (1-4, 1-4 GAC) stayed within striking distance for much of the contest but were unable to find the end zone, Kameron Van Prooyen was responsible for all the SNU points,  knocking down three field goals for the Storm.

Van Prooyen put SNU on the board first, capping a 10-play, 44-yard opening drive with a 34-yard kick midway through the first quarter. The Weevils (2-3, 2-3 GAC) answered before the end of the period with a short field goal of their own to even things at 3-3.

In the second quarter, UAM found the end zone on a 20-yard touchdown pass to take a 10-3 lead, but SNU responded before halftime with another strong drive. Van Prooyen's 27-yarder cut the deficit to 10-6 at the break.

The Crimson Storm continued to move the ball efficiently in the second half, and Van Prooyen drilled his third field goal—a 37-yarder—to pull SNU within four at 13-9 late in the third. However, Arkansas-Monticello pulled away down the stretch, adding a rushing touchdown early in the fourth and another field goal to seal the win.
