Crimson Storm Earn First Conference Win Over Southeastern

Southern Nazarene sweeps the Savage Storm inside the Sawyer Center

BETHANY, Okla. — Southern Nazarene put together a dominant performance Thursday night inside the Sawyer Center, sweeping Southeastern Oklahoma State 3-0 to earn their first conference win of the season.

The Crimson Storm (5-10, 1-3 GAC) earned their first conference win of the season in front of a home crowd, rolling past the Savage Storm (6-9, 1-4 GAC) by set scores of 25-13, 25-20, and 25-20.

Kate Wright powered the SNU offense with a match-high 17 kills while hitting efficiently throughout the evening. Jaidyn Reid added nine kills and a strong defensive effort with a team-best 16 digs, while Hannah Morgan chipped in eight kills and two blocks.

Southern Nazarene came out firing in the opening frame, hitting .318 as Wright and Morgan set the tone early. The Crimson Storm never trailed, using a pair of service runs from Branson and Emma Grace Moddelmog to put Southeastern on its heels in a 25-13 win.

The second set proved more competitive, as both sides traded points before SNU broke free behind timely swings from Wright and Reid. Mauldin and Moddelmog continued to run the offense, keeping Southeastern's defense guessing, and the Crimson Storm closed out the frame 25-20 to grab a two-set lead.

In the third, the Savage Storm looked to extend the match, but SNU's balance proved too much. Key kills from Wright and Morgan, paired with Reid's outstanding defensive play, kept momentum on the Crimson Storm's side. A late ace from Branson sealed the 25-20 decision, clinching the sweep.

SNU held a .285 hitting percentage on the night, their second highest hitting percentage of the season. The Storm also recorded a season team high of 61 digs on the night.
